” We have a gig for you … A client needs a logo made… Interested?”
And that’s how I ended up with the challenge of creating a logo for the Makhra Solar Company. Problem: they needed the logo done within less than 24 hours!
A drawing from the client was forwarded as an i-phone screenshot. I was also told that they would like a second logo option. They preferred the design to be green and wanted to include an eagle.
After walking the dog and avoiding a particularly sketchy neighbor, the project was underway. That night, I worked on it for a total of six hours.
By somewhere around 1:30 am, I had a digitized sketch and at least eight different colorized versions of the two logos. Each one had a cutesy customized name to help differentiate the variations. It was kinda funny. My favorite was Environmental Hipster, although I really liked the name “Hipster Smoothie Child”.
I didn’t like the eagle design at all. Fist of all, it looked like a seagull and all I could think of were ‘wet poop jokes’ from the Gaurdians of Ga’Hoole. Lovely >.< The sun and water incorporated in the image did nothing to help it. Looked like a Central California Coast flyer or something along those lines. Maybe Florida. But they wanted an eagle, it was late at night and I tried!
“Hum… Didn’t see the intention of realistic panels within the drawing, there.” I thought to my self. But they wanted realistic panels and that was perfect. Thankfully no more eagles!
Three more hours. Found some pictures of solar panels and designed them from scratch. All of the sudden a different view started forming. It wasn’t just the Makhra Solar Company logo – it was a plant growing in an environmentally friendly environment, being warmed by morning sun rays. Magic Beans! It was so exciting. I even made a space version and called it “Satellite”. Do you see how the solar panels look like a planet!?
Unfortunately I don’t know anymore information on the company or where I could find their website. Heard they were starting up this week. Best of luck!!!
