About :)

Hey there,
It’s Jacquie, written JQ for short. I’m a BFA film major who is more interested in Photo Manipulation, Fashion Photography, Set Photography, & Travel photography (Should have switched majors, maybe ).

Took my first picture in Colombia at the age of 5 and got that first digital camera in 2002. Captured and edited most shots featured in “Neighborhood Times”,  the child rendered newsletter my friends and I started in 2005. In 2009, I traveled to Mexico and found myself intrigued by the cowboy lifestyle and ranch activities. Afterwards, I returned a few times in order to try out photojournalism.  The summer of  2013, I moved to France to work on various  photo projects . Right now I might be in Dubai, Ghana, Mexico or back in the States.

Other random fun facts 🙂

  • 1 qt left for a BFA in Film but considering the possibility of not finishing my degree.
  • Tigers, butterflies and the color teal are my favorites.
  • As a child, I jokingly wished to run away and join the circus.
  • At 14, my alternate career of choice was “Mermaid”.
  • Fashion is totally a form of art. Don’t forget, the world is your runway!!! ❤
  • Tigger, my favorite stuffed animal, has traveled more than me.
  • Found out both my parents had pet monkeys as kids O.O
I want a pet fox. Or Skunk. Or tiger. Is that a thing? Actually what about a bat ray?

Photographers that inspire me include:

  • Tom Chambers–  Thought provoking photomontage often illustrating animals.
  • Brooke Shaden– Conceptual photography illustrated through photomanipulation.
  • Elena Kalis– Breathtaking underwater photography.
  • Rockie Nolan – Fashion photographer who recently graduated with a BFA.
  • Felicia Simion– Another young photographer with a captivating color scheme.
  • Robin Schwartz – Wonderful work with daughter Amelia in company of animals.
  • Jim Jordan– Crisp Fashion Photography (music plays in the background)

    1. That’s a very good question!

The answer depends on who you ask and what kind of mermaid they believe in. Personally, I don’t believe in them.

Professional mermaiding, on the other hand is a term that has come up within the last couple decades. It’s often a blend between the entertainment industry and ocean conservation. Examples of professional mermaids include Hannah Fraser or Eric Ducharme who specializes in the production of realistic silicone tails. Weeki Wachee, Florida is probably one of the more well-known places to offer mermaid performances.

So if they were to have kids, I’m sure it would be in the normal human way. Hope this answers your question 😉

      1. I have always enjoyed saying Weeki Wachee. We had some mermaid shows in San Marcos, TX, and they would have a mermaid picnic and drink Dr. Pepper underwater.

  11. Hey, thanks for the like on my post. Funnily enough when I was younger I too wanted to join the circus, I wanted to be one of those people who run on the big rings. Never wanted to be a mermaid though…

      1. Yep that’s the one, I like to think there is still a chance that I might be a professional wheel runner one day but until then ill just stick to being a spectator.

        Like

        1. Well, it would definitely be more thrilling than being a spectator! Although that is always fun too.
In your travels, if you ever befriend anyone in a circus, take advantage of it.
Their routines are lots of fun and you just work your way up until you can do more complicated things.

  13. Hi Jacquie, thank you for your kind words, I see from your profile that you are fan of Butterflies. As a tailor I do fabric design and I did a wonderful fabric out of a species of insects called Cicardas which though a insect have some sweet wings like Butterflies. I will find a way to get a picture of the fabric to you. I think you will like it.

    All the best Matt Lawrence

    1. Hey!
The pictures of your tailoring process were pretty cool. I’d never actually seen ‘behind the scenes’ on suits before, so that was pretty exciting.
You did a fabric design out of Cicardas? Sounds legit!

  18. I just wanted to say I relate completely to you when I read “College Senior but considering the possibility of not finishing my degree.” I’m in my final year of university as well getting a degree in English Language and Linguistics. But my life has been unashamedly taken over by photography since about a year and a half ago. More now than ever I have to fight very hard to work on my assignments and finish knowing what I really want to do with my life. But it is comforting to meet someone who is in a similar boat to me. Love your blog by the way, great work. 🙂

  19. Hey these are some really great photos, absolutely beautiful! And I also really like your Tigger’s photo adventures idea. 🙂 I’m too scared to bring mine on new travels, scared that something will happen to him or that I will lose him. So I’ll leave him safe at home.

Oh and thanks for dropping by on my blog and liking my post. 🙂

    1. Hey Miguel, thanks for the message! Dude you have no idea, carrying stuffed animals can be tricky business. Once, I accidentally left Tigger in Mexico for a year. Later, when we visited the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, security threatened to cut him open with a knife >.<
Overall though, most people just joke around and watch out for Tigger's well being 🙂

      Like

      1. Ohh wow, how did you managed to get him back after a year? And cutting him open? Holy sh** that’s a serious threat over there. But good to know that most people watch out for him. 😉 Well whenever he travels to Peru and Cusco he must check out one particular place/restaurant. I think he will like it over there, it’s full of stuffed animals. 🙂
You can read and see some pictures from it at the end of this post: https://miguelintheworld.wordpress.com/2015/04/26/study-trip-peru-4-cedna-project-and-the-most-adorable-restaurant-in-the-world/

        1. My mom has a house in central Mexico that we go visit every so often. Not entirely sure were I left tiger but I found him on the hammock in the front yard with one of the neighborhood kids. Apparently he’d been hanging out with them all year.
Thanks for the link, I’ll be checking that out 😀

  20. JQ, thanks for liking my Education-Spring blog post and I adore your photography! I rushed right over to the comments so I could encourage you to stay in school–and it sounds like you have, right? I began my life as a musician, later became a teacher and went on from there, thanks to completing my degree; in other words, you never know what direction in which your talent will point you! If you’ve already graduated, congratulations! If not, hang in there, and you’ll be proud of completing that part of your education. Proud of you!
